Understanding Bank Profitability

Our Understanding Bank Profitability program is divided into 2 sections:

1) The Language of Banking: Banking has its own language that is unique among all other industries.  What other industry divides income expenses into two groups like we do?!  Learning to speak “banker” is a key part of developing yourself or your team into banking experts.  This Language of Banking section starts from the basic accounting equation (Assets = Liabilities + Equity) and goes through bank capital and all the way to participants putting together a SWOT analysis on a real bank’s financial statements.

2) Innovation is key to driving profitability.  Charles Potts, ICBA’s  Chief Innovation Officer, talks about the different ways that innovation is already driving innovation in banks and gives the students new ways of thinking about this important topic.
